Maui is known for its breathtaking forests and stunning beaches. Its natural beauty makes a popular location for destination weddings, engagement photos, and proposals. Because the island is so large, it can be overwhelming trying to pick locations for your Maui Engagement Photos.
Our favorite thing about Maui is how unique it all is from the mainland, making some of its views seem almost otherworldly. If you’re looking to maximize your time on Maui you won’t be able to go to EVERY photo location available to you (you can just pull over on the side of the road almost anywhere and find something beautiful in Maui), so here are our recommendations for the TWO spots that will give you the Maui engagement photo look you’re after.
It’s easy to see why this moss covered forest is called The Magical Enchanted Forest. The sun filtering through the lush treetops creates a beautiful dreamy light that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a magical world.
It’s right off the Honoapillani (and parking can be limited as it’s a popular trail to the Honolula Bay), which means you can get right in without a strenuous hike. It also means people often drive right by it not realizing this beautiful spot is right next to them. While its not a secret or anything, it was pretty secluded and we had this space to ourselves during this session.
Nothing says “Maui Engagement Photo” like a wild chicken.
You can’t get Maui Engagement Photos without photos on the beach.
Ironwoods, officially called Oneloa Beach, is a great location for this for two reasons.
Ironwoods is surrounded by private property so the only way to get to it (besides living near it) is a short and relatively easy hike. I wouldn’t take my grandmother on it or anything because at some points it is rocky, but most people should be able to handle it.
The best way to get there (without parking in front of someone’s driveway like a jerk) is to hike the Kapalua Coastal Trail starting at Kapula Bay. Its about 1.5 miles there, so 3 miles round trip.
Because of the small inconvenience of reaching Ironwoods Cliffs the beach here is relatively empty compared to other beaches on Maui. Meaning you can take photos here with a lot of privacy and without people in the back of your photos.
Choosing the right location for your Maui engagement photos is an important decision that can significantly enhance the beauty and meaning of your images. There are dozens (even hundreds more) than listed here and we encourage you to explore this beautiful island so you can have your own unique Maui engagement photos. Whatever location you choose, the key is to select a setting that reflects your unique style and personality as a couple. With its natural beauty and romantic atmosphere, Maui is sure to provide the perfect backdrop for your engagement photos, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
